In an inspiring event aimed at supporting business endeavors of persons with disabilities in Ogun East Senatorial District, the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, graced the premises of the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Ijebu-Ode, home to the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Ogun East Chapter.
Dr. Mojisola Akinsanya, a Personal Assistant to the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, highlighted the significance of the grants, as part of the empowerment efforts championed by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun reiterated the commitment of Nigeria’s First Lady to enhance the welfare of vulnerable populations, marking a new era of inclusivity in Ogun State. A total of 28 Persons with Disabilities received cash grants of one hundred thousand (100,000) naira each, symbolizing a unified dedication to their empowerment.
The occasion witnessed pledges of responsible fund utilization from beneficiaries like Miss Dina Opeyemi, a PWD Patent Medicine Store owner. Additionally, Mr. Adebowale ‘Segun, the Chairman of JONAPWD, Ogun East Senatorial District assured of accountability and adequate monitoring to ensure the fund is used for its intended purpose.
Advocating for a sustainable change, Mr. Abiodun Adebesin, a PWD Advocate, urged the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, to implement the long-awaited Persons with Disability Act of Ogun State. In her response, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun pledged to advocate for the implementation of PWD Acts, emphasizing the importance of inclusion of PWDs in structural planning and programmes in Ogun State.
Adding cultural richness to the event, Akinyemi Jelili (A blind On-Air Personality) delivered a captivating rendition of EWI Chants, enhancing the event’s cultural essence.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Ireti Disu, Deputy Director of JDPC, Ijebu-Ode, expressed gratitude to Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and Ogun State’s First Lady, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, for their commitment to empowering the vulnerables. She stressed the necessity of ongoing collaboration to achieve sustainable development goals and raised awareness about increasing cases of violence against women and girls in Ogun State, while thanking the First Lady for her swift support in addressing a similar case involving a minor which was previously referred to her office.
