Rape is a growing and severe epidemic, representing one of the most violent and brutal crimes against women and girls. It cannot be tolerated in any form.
Following a thorough investigation, JDPC expresses deep concern about the recent alleged rape at Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun, Ogun State. The Commission describes this incident as a heinous act and a grave violation of the dignity and rights of the four female students who were affected.
JDPC commends the Ogun State Government for its prompt response to this matter and takes this opportunity to call upon the authorities to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of women and girls in our communities. Furthermore, the government should make deliberate efforts to criminalize and prosecute rape as a systemic human rights violation in line with international human rights standards.
