2024 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION ORGANISED BY COWAOS IN COLLABORATION WITH JDPC IJEBU-ODE

As the world marks the 2024 International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, the Global spotlight intensifies strides made on the ongoing pursuit of gender equality.
The 7th Of March 2024 was a time for reflection and action at a conference organised by Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC), Ijebu-Ode in collaboration with International Budget Partners (IBP) and the Coalition of Women Associations in Ogun State (COWOAS) as they commemorate the 2024 International Women’s Day with theme “INVEST IN WOMEN’S HEALTH: NO WOMAN MUST DIE AT CHILDBIRTH”.
It was a period to call the attention of the Ogun State Government to make health care sevices available, accessible and affordable to women.

Among the dignitaries present were Rev. Fr. John Patrick Ngoyi, the director JDPC, Rev Fr. Stephen Oshikoya and Rev Fr. Alfred Nworie represnting the Catholic Bishop of Ijebu-Ode Diocese, Mrs Ireti Disu, Deputy Director JDPC, Alhaja Muinat Koiki, Mrs Abosede Obilana, President of the COWAOS and the Supervisor for Health Hon Kemi Adewale Ifelaja, Ijebu NorthEast Local Government, all of whom gave goodwill messages in commemoration of the day.
The Resource persons, Mr Aregbesola Moore and Mr. Njoku Chris took the technical session on the health Insurance scheme in Ogun State, using the IBIDERO i.e the free health insurance scheme as a case study for pregnant women between zero to four months.
The second technical session was centered on ‘Invest in women; Accelerate Progress’ which was taken by Dr. Modupeola Oba-Adenuga, from the department of Counselling and Psychology, Oba Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and technology, Ogun State
This session called on government to invest in women wholistically particularly in the areas of resources, technology, education, skill acquisition, agricultural land ownership for women and data collection.
She also enjoined the women to invest in developing themselves so that they will be at par with their male counterpart.
Participants were 150 in attendance, 25 male and 125 female drawn from the Ogun Women on Marternal health, the Coalition of Women Associations in Ogun State, the Joint National Associations of Persons with Disabilities, The Persons of Concern, (refugees and internally displaced persons), the Tricycle Riders Associations, the Motorcycle Riders Associations and Community leaders.
The conference ended with a communique calling on the government to effectively implement the IBIDERO health scheme to accelerate progress for women as their good health is the foundation of any meaningful development.
